Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

With Serenity Family Psychiatry's treatment, many individuals with PTSD can see significant improvements in their symptoms and overall quality of life.

PTSD is a psychiatric disorder which can develop after a person has been through a traumatic event. Some of the signs are flashbacks, nightmares and increased anxiety. Linda therefore treats the symptoms of PTSD with medication while offering brief psychotherapy where the patient is empowered and assisted on how to deal with the trauma. Her treatment assists people to gain back control of their lives by decreasing the severity and frequency of the recall of the disturbing incidents and hence, responses to the stimuli.

If an individual has experienced a trauma and exhibited symptoms in each of the four categories (intrusive memories, avoidance, negative mood changes, and hyperarousal) for more than one month then it might be called PTSD. Early intervention can help prevent PTSD from becoming chronic and reduce the risk of developing co-occurring conditions.
